Rant Co.: Similar Tastes

Everyone has the right to hate certain styles of music. They have the right to hate certain artists. But one thing that bothers me more than anything else, is when people say they hate an artist because all of their music sounds the same. That is a terrible
excuse. EVERY ARTIST/GROUP SOUNDS THE SAME! All of Jason Aldean’s songs sound similar. Same with Elvis, Metallica, Rihanna, and the Eagles. That is a fact. When you have the same singer(s) for each song, they are bound to sound similar.
Most singers or groups perform in one genre of
music; it is the form they are comfortable singing/playing. When you combine the same style and vocal chords over and over...guess what, it sounds the same. The singers have their one range of notes, usually two octaves at most. That is the same twenty-five tones sung in different patterns with different words.
Even artists that make the switch to
different genres, sound the same in both. Case in point, listen to Taylor Swift who switched from
country to pop. Kelly Clarkson who switched from pop to country. LeAnn Rimes is the same way. Even Darius Rucker, who switched to a solo country career, sounds the same as he did with Hootie and the
Blowfish.
There is nothing wrong with this, because there is nothing anyone can do about it. But it should not be your reason for hating them. Look at your favorite
artists. I bet their songs sound similar. So the next time you say you hate an artist, say you hate their voice, their style of playing, the lyrics, how they dance around on stage. Don’t say it is because their songs sound the same.
