Bi-Monthly Analysis

Our book we chose to review for this issue is: A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton which was published on April 15th, 1982. The first printing produced 7,500 copies of the mystery novel. It is Grafton’s debut “alphabet mystery” series with private investigator Kinsey Millhone. The setting is a fictional town called Santa Teresa, California. The book received a 3.5/5 on the site Goodreads. “Grafton admits she conceived the story on her own ‘fantasy’ of murdering her then husband while going through a divorce.”
“This is a series I will never tire of. I give it a 9.9/10. The way Grafton gets you to laugh at the main character’s sense of humor is what draws you in to read page after page. Who knew our alphabet could be so exciting?”
-Keith, MN
“I love the way that Sue Grafton writes. I’ve read a few of her novels before…she makes her characters really believable, which is a big thing for me. I want a book to take me inside the story, and A is for Alibi does that with flying colors.”
-Tammy, WI

-Travis, WI

The song we chose this issue is Drunk on Your Love by Brett Eldredge which is a country song released on November 9th, 2015 from his sophomore album Illinois.
The 2 minute 54 second song sold over 300,000 copies in the first five months and reached #1 on the charts on April 2nd, 2016 in both Canada and the USA. It is written by Brett Eldredge, himself, along with Ross Copperman and was produced by Atlantic Nashville. It was originally created as just a demo and was debuted in July of 2015 for Tyler Hubbard’s wedding, of Florida Georgia Line.
Taste of Country Blog, “The idea of being drunk on one’s love is hardly new to the format, but Eldredge’s interpretation is no less sincere for it. The song aims right down the middle of what fans and radio have come to expect from the crooner, and it should easily become another big hit.”

“Drunk on Your Love is a feel good country song that everyone can relate to! It’s a song you can slow dance to with your other half or jam out with your friends any summer night.”
-Jenifer, WI

“This song just puts a smile on your face. I can’t get sick of it…seriously. It will for sure be the song for the summer of 2016.”
-Angie, MI

The second she walked through the door, I caught a buzz.
One taste from your lips knocked me out just like a drug.
The rest of the night’s kind of blurry
Now the sun’s peeking through the shades
I can’t help but laugh cause I kind of like feeling this way.

(Chorus) I woke up, up still drunk, drunk
On your love, love, on your love, love.
Now I know why-y I’m feeling so high, high
Cause I’m still drunk, drunk on your love, on your love.

It’s not in the whiskey, tequila, or the wine
It’s all about the touch and the fire in our eyes
It gets me fumbling always stumbling through a haze
I got plenty to do just laying here with you all day.

Chorus

Wish I could bottle you up and drink you in all day long
Every day singing this song.

Chorus
On your love, on your love
On your love
On your love, on your love
On your love, get drunk on your love, yeah
I’m so drunk.

And finally, our TV Show this issue is: Supernatural, a television series based on two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, fighting the forces of evil expecting nothing in return. The show stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Jim Beaver, and Misha Collins and was created by Eric Kripke. It has been nominated sixty times with seventeen wins. Originally airing on September 13th, 2005, it is currently still showing on the CW with its 11th season finale on May 25th, 2016. On March 11th, 2016 it was renewed for a 12th season. The filming is set in Vancouver, Canada and is classified as a drama/horror/thriller.  The pilot reached 5.69 million viewers and the show on a whole has been given a 9.1/10 on TV.com. With its 11th season underway, Supernatural became North America’s longest-running science-fiction series surpassing Smallville with only ten seasons. Another series-running “character” is the ‘67 black Impala that the brothers drive across the country. Kripke originally wanted a ’65 Mustang but was convinced to switch to the Impala which is an aggressive, muscular car and fits into the tone of the show.
Eric Kripke, on the decision to add the Impala, “We say it’s a modern American Western – two gunslingers who ride into town, fight the bad guys, kiss the girl and ride out into the sunset again. And we were always talking from the very beginning that if you’re going to have cowboys, they need a trusty horse.”

Supernatural has such strong character development; you watch them grow, change, and you are drawn to it all throughout the seasons. Also I love the unpredictable plot twists.”
-Melissa, MN

“I love Supernatural not because it’s a perfect show, but because it makes you look forward to having your heart ripped out. And then stomped on. On a more serious note, at its core Supernatural is not about demons or monsters but about making difficult choices with a stacked deck – a situation most of us can relate to. Supernatural is about the redeeming love of family and friends and the reassurance that even if you are dragged to hell and back (literally), your family’s got your back. As Bobby Singer said: ‘Family Don’t End in Blood’.”
