Alcohol Guide

Alcohol Guide
We like trying new things, so with a panel of average joes, we took to sampling some products in the liquor store. Every issue we will bring you information and our ratings on a hard liquor, a wine, a beer, and a malt beverage/wine cooler/pre-mixed drink. Join along with us for our next issue and Facebook in your comments to be selected for the magazine.
We rated them on a scale of one to ten with ten being the best and one being the worst. The different tasting panels were selected at random, and not influenced one way or another. They gave their first impression and opinions upon tasting.
Call your local liquor store to try them for yourself.

Harp Premium Imported Lager-
Is founded in 1960 by Guinness in Ireland. Originally of the Great Northern Brewery in Dundalk, Germany, it moved to St. James’s Gate Brewery in 2015. It is 5% ABV and is available year round.

Received a 8.25/10 by twenty-six tasters. It was awarded a 10/10 once and multiple 9/10 ratings.

“I like the rich flavor. You can tell it is an Irish beer without being too overpowering.”

“I just found my new favorite beer!”
“It isn’t even St. Patrick’s Day, and I love it.”

Cayman Jack Cuban Mojito-
Is flavored malt that came out in April of 2016. It is made of Cuban mint, organic lime, and real cane sugar. It pairs well with fajitas, chips and salsa, shot of tequila, and pollo asado. It is 5.8 ABV.

Received a 7.55/10 on our scale with twenty tasters. We tasted it chilled with a lemon wedge. It was given a 10/10 by about half of our tasting panel.

“This is the best Mojito I have ever had in wine cooler form.”

“It is all simple ingredients. That is hard to find now-a-days. This is great.”
“Very refreshing. This will be a nice change of drink this summer.”

Mother’s Cherry Schnapps-
It is a product of Crosby Lake Spirits bottled in Princeton, Minnesota. The Mother’s family of products consists of sweet teas, schnapps and specialty cordials, ready-to-drinks, and Holiday Nog. Mother’s Cherry Schnapps is 30 proof and is available year round. The average bottle price is $7 for a 750ml.

Received a 6.9/10 on our scale with thirty tasters. The number does seem low, but it did receive a 10/10 by one of our panel members. We tried this four ways: straight, with orange soda, with orange juice, and with an energy drink. Almost everyone liked it better with something than straight. The favored being the orange soda.

“I prefer this over Dr. McGillicuddy’s.”
“It is very smooth.”

Stella Rosa L’Originale Platinum-
This wine is from the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. It has high natural acidity and low pH. It is bright and full-bodied with perfect hints of sweetness. On a sweetness scale of one-ten, it is rated at a six. It is available year round.

Received a 7.5/10 on our scale. Received a 10/10 rating five separate times out of nineteen people. It was agreed that if you like sweet wines, you should like this one. We did the recommended instructions on the back and sampled it chilled.

“This is one of my all-time favorite wines.”
“Sweet and refreshing.”
“This is the perfect summer wine!”
